Breathe.
You can last up to 3-4 weeks without food.
You can last several days without water.
But you can only survive a few minutes without oxygen.
So, take a breath.
Each day we take around 23,000 breaths, which is around 12,000 litres of air. We should take around 10 - 12 breaths a minute if we are breathing correctly. Most of us take 16 – 20.
Slow down, take a breath.
Experts in this field say that we get 95% of our energy from the oxygen we breathe. Most of us only access 20% of that energy.
Take a breath.
Photosynthesis is the process plants use to create glucose for energy. It takes in carbon dioxide and water and light to
These silent heroes pull enormous quantities of carbon dioxide out of the air, then give us oxygen back, multiplying it by 10.
Plant a tree.
The amount of oxygen produced by an acre of trees in a year equals the amount consumed by 18 people annually.
Plant a tree.
This sculpture resembles both a canopy of branches and the anatomy of our lungs. The way our world breaths, and the way we breath.
The steel column that holds and supports the lungs, speaks to the idea, that the trees are the backbone that we depend on for our survival.
The rusted finish reminds us of the exploitation of the planet under industrialisation, it’s an image of the natural world under the strain of a man-made climate crisis.
Importantly it’s a reminder for us to slow down, take a deep breath and plant a tree.
